Inspired by the rolling hills and tree lines of Arkansas, this piece reflects the feeling of growing up surrounded by open land, shifting skies, and moments that stay with you long after you’ve left.
Painted as part of an advanced study through the Milan Art Institute, this work explores a subtractive layering process — allowing deeper, darker layers to remain visible while selectively revealing light through texture, scratches, and intentional mark-making. The contrast of cool and warm tones creates depth and atmosphere, guiding the eye from the vibrant foreground of poppies into the calm, distant horizon.
While the poppy field itself is imagined, the emotion is not.
